Rest, relaxation and renewal are the key elements for creativity.
Ideas flow freely when a body has been at rest. Creativity becomes alert at the first wakeful moment of the day for me. Poetry flows like a river with its own momentum. Having a pad and pencil ready to capture my thoughts is crucial.
Relaxation frees my mind to draw what I see; not what I think it should look like. Lines of a drawing create negative and positive shapes for the beginning of a painting. The next step is preparing the paper with clear water and adding three background colors while the paper is still wet. When the paper is dry I begin to paint shapes, wetting the shape with clear water and dropping color into the shape, smoothing the hard lines with a clear wet brush. The painting begins to appear.
Renewal is the sense of achieving the effect I create. I experience total immersion into oblivion as time passes during the creative process. Standing back to observe the result of this time lapse brings a sense of renewal in the creatve process which allows me to express my inner self. It brings a humbling sense of gratitude.
