Reflections of gifts ramble through my mind as we approach the Season of giving. The gift of healing health has been given to us with Paul's recovery from oral surgery which removed cancer from his tongue November 5, 2012. His gift of inner strength and determination drive him to improve each day so we will be able to see palm trees in Arizona in February 2013.
The gift of family connection has been renewed with the contact we have again with my son, Kris. He "friended" us on Facebook after fourteen years of not knowing where he was. His ability to reach out to us brings me great joy. He continues to help street people in need in Minneapolis. His helping others brings the gift of his own recovery.
Finally, I reflect on my own healing gift as I recover from a month-long siege of pneumonia and asthma. It feels good to write and paint again with my universe in balance once more. My gift of music was expressed when I played pianoin the lobby of Sanford Hospital in Fargo when Paul was in ICU there. When he moved to Altru Rehab there was a piano in the dining room which I played during the evening meal. When Paul starts his radiation treatments at the Cancer Center you will find me at the Baldwin piano in the lobby. Playing piano provides me the opportunity to find serenity, and children, parents and the elderly shared their gratitude, also.
As you celebrate the gifts of love, joy and peace in your own way, may you treasure the Season of Giving.
